EAR CANDLING involves the use of a custom made, hollow candle that is coated with beeswax. The candle looks like a large crayon. While the client lies comfortably on a cushioned table, the hollow candle is placed gently in the outer opening of the ear. The client's head is fully covered. Massaging of the face and neck areas around each ear canal aids the release of often astounding quantities of inner ear debris with immediate and long lasting benefits. Babies can receive this procedure while sleeping in one's arms. Many adults use this technique as a regular part of their overall health program.

EAR CANDLING TREATMENT
Ear
candling is so simple that even a child can do it! These instructions
will
be enclosed with each shipment. Always read instructions very carefully
before you begin your candling session. First and foremost, be sure to
use a room with plenty of ventilation, however, insure to keep the room
draft free.
I always keep my set up simple. A bowl of water, 2 flame retardant cloths, Q-tips, scissors, massage oil, barrier plate and ear oil. Insure that your hands are clean. Have the client relax horizontally with the ear in a vertical position, preferably on a massage table with the head resting on a pillow covered with a flame retardent flannel. Constantly reassure the client that the treatment is painless and what the benefits are once they begin the process. Depending on your comfort level, you can stand or sit on a chair while performing the candling process.
When beginning, I first cover the client around the ear and shoulders with flame retardent cloth. I then insert the tip of the candle about an inch through the barrier plate (which prevents wax dripping on the client) and light the other end of the candle. Hold the barrier plate with the candle nearer to the caregiver. The candle should block the auditory canal. If smoke escapes, adjust the pan since this usually means that there is no seal. In such cases there may be a slight powdery residue on the ear which will come off with a damp cloth. Always be watchful of the candle as it burns.
Allow the candle to burn down about 4 inches which should be
sufficient
and then cut the candle. Resume the candling until there is an inch of
unburned candle. You may find some candle wax in the ear candle once
you
open it.
Sometimes ear candles pull wax from within, so do not be alarmed.
